Recovery time from Carpal Tunnel release

Any of you guys out there that have had a Carpal Tunnel release surgery lately what was or is the expected recovery time? I am going under the knife tomorrow at 9:00. Looks like my hunting season is coming to an early end without anything to show. Hopefully it will only be about a 4 week recovery and I will be able to end up with something in late Jan. or Feb. due to MLD permits. Thanks

Sounds like the perfect time to get some more culling done by your friends or for you to get more familiar with your firearms.

Good Luck Kelly. I am sure that they have that surgery down to a science.

I had it done a few years back! I'm a mechanic and I was turning wrenches again in 3-4 weeks. Where they cut you will be bothersome or tender about 8 t0 12 months. Good Luck!

Tom had it last year. He was helping cut down trees the next day (Course he shouldn't have been doing that and paid for the pain later), but he did. He was tender for a while but he was good to go in a couple of weeks. Coming from the one who has to help and take care of it, please rest it! lol. Good luck with your surgery!

            Good luck with the surgery!

Dad had it an elbow surgery two weeks ago. His trigger finger is already operational, he has chipped golf balls and is going fishing this week. If you have his luck, you will be hunting within week. Whay will likely slow you down is heavy lifting of use of the hand.

Dad has two long ugly scars to show for it.

              Good luck!

I've persoanlly worked with 20+ people who have had CT surgery done.

one lady was a receptionist for a car dealer in Shreveport. Had surgery on a Fri , and went right back to work answering phones/taking messages the next Mon morning. She missed 1 day of work (Fri) to have the surgery done. Definitely not the norm, BUT she wanted to return to work and her doctor approved

depending upon your profession will ultimately dictate how long you are out of work.

listen to your dr's and follow their advice on Phys Therapy and activities which you should/should not participate in.

post-op , you will be encouraged to keep your hand elevated above your heart for the first few days to limit swelling.

your 1st follow-up visit with your dr will be @ 2 wks post suregry. the stitches will be removed and you should be fitted for a splint. this splint may be used for the first one to three weeks of your recovery.

PT may be ordered along with minimal participation in DLA (daily living activities) .

on avg., most people recover and are approved for light duty work (max. lifting 20 lbs) within four to six weeks providing there are no setbacks.

you should be at MMI (maximum medical improvement) within 2-3 mos. post operation.

i've been dealing with this stuff for 15 yrs so i have a little experience

send me a PM if you have any more Q's

They don't cut that big an incision any more. It doesn't go back past the first wrinkle in the wrist. Speeds up the recovery a lot. Make sure they do a MRI and Xray. A bone spur on the back of the Carpal Tunnel can cause the same feeling. Good luck.

It's the dinner fork thing that's creeping me out. But the incision isn't too good looking either.

Thanks for the replies everyone. Sorry it took me a while to get back but yesterday was kind of a whirlwind day so to speak. Right after I posted I drove six of us down to Tilden so that we could attend my Sister-In-Laws 50 surprise birthday party and then got back about 11:30 last night and this morning is the first time I've been able to get on a computer. My GF is about to take me to the surgery center here in a few for a 9:00 case. I'll let every one know how it goes this afternoon. Thanks Again.

Well, I'm out and like they always say "It went well". Have already taken a couple hydrocodones and this hunt and peck with the left hand is so slow it is even painful. Thanks again for the wellwishes.
