I put a new 6 volt DC motor and Moutrie replacement timer in my feeder housing and tested it several times, and it threw corn great. I put a brand new Energizer 6 volt battery in it at the same time, and the timer indicated 100% battery. I go back 2 weeks later, today, and feeder does not throw, and I check and battery is completely dead. Took entire housing home, and removed the motor and timer.
I returned the Moultrie timer back to Acadmey and got another. I was talking to a guy there, and he said it sounds like there maybe a short somewhere. I looked at the motor and noticed there is a very faint red/Orange dot near one of the 2 prongs on the bottom of the motor. I am now assuming that prong is either a positive or negative connection, and should be wired to the appropriate positive or negative wire coming out of the timer to the motor. What throws me is the motor will spin no matter which way I have the prongs connected to the timer.
Question is if I have it wired wrong, will it cause some type of short and drain the battery prematurely. Second question is I assume the red dot denotes the positive prong. I am not well versed in electronics, so my question may sound silly, but I am just trying to avoid another trip to the lease only to find my feeder dead. Any help or insight is greatly appreciated.
