So I won a ruger American in 243 at a drawing. So sent it to my dad to do some load development and make it shoot. He has 30+ years in doing it and the most talented person I’ve ever met when it comes to making a gun shoot. So I’m not going to do much with it except let my wife and niece and nephew shoot the gun. So 200 yards is the farthest this gun will shoot. So I bought a vortex diamondback 4x12x40 bdc. Figured this scope was plenty for what this rifle is going to do for me as a predator and whitetail gun. So he already found a development that was driving tacks. Before I got the scope to him. So the scope came he lapped rings and did everything within vortex specs with a torque wrench etc. He has mounted hundreds of scopes in his time so he is very good at it. So first time on the range here is what it did at a 100 yards with the scope.

So it was shooting great 5 hole groups covered up by a dime at 100 yards. I’m happy. So he wanted to shoot it some more and sight it in that’s when the trouble started. This is a week later. He said it started out fine, then as time and shots progressed the group got worse and worse.. he figured maybe it was him and stopped shooting. Scrubbed it down etc etc. so went back the following week and said scope looked kinda grainy... here is the group it was shooting
So now he is like *** is going on... so we came to a conclusion that possibly it was the scope. So he took off one his leupold vx3 off his 7mm... it shot this group at a 100 yds 6 shot group..

So we know it’s the scope. So I call vortex and talk to Kathy very nice lady. See gave me a two day shipping label to get it too them. She calls me a couple days later and say we got your scope are techs looked at it and said rings were mounted on too tight is what they came up with. And there going to send me a new scope which is fine. Here is my problem I call BS. If rings were to tight and broke something in the tube it wouldn’t have shot like that the first time. Everything to specs and mounted by a guy that has more experience then most.. not saying he couldn’t have messed up just highly unlikely.so I believe something was wrong with the scope then shooting it escalated the problem. Anyways so this was my first vortex optics I have purchased and probally won’t buy another. I’ll stick with leupold. But they do have great customer service. Figured people would want to here my story with the scope and vortex. Wish them the best in the future!
