Duck Hunting from a Kayak - Conroe Area

I am going to give Conroe and Livingston a shot this year from the ol' kayak. This will be my first year going this route, but should be fun. If nothing else it will be learning experience and an adventure. If you wanna hook up, shoot me a PM and we'll see if we can make something happen.

To hunt Conroe you will need your APH. In order to avoid the worst of the crowd, I will be trying to do most of my hunting during the week.

My brother and I used to do a lot of hunting from a kayak at McFadden WMA and Anahuac WMA. If you get into shallow marshes or mud flats, you can use your boat like a lay-out blind. A sheet of burlap will suffice for a cheap solution, but you can buy better material by the yard and build your own system. My buddy and I still use a canoe here and there to get it done. Using a kayak is a great way to get away from the crowds. Try to find places that are remote enough that walk in hunters can't get there easily, but rugged enough that it keeps the boat traffic out as well.

I've added some photos below of some paddle-craft trips. Not sure why they aren't working. I've added links instead.

Just saw someone on another forum cover their 17' mud boat with burlap. He got 3x24' rolls and used zip ties to attach.

He then got some stealth grass to put ontop of the burlap

Floating gun case and tether are covered. Plus, my gun will fit in the hull of my boat.

If it is shallow enough where you will be hunting cut two saplings and trim the limbs and drive them into the mud next to your boat and tie off. You will be much more stable than just floating. Don't leave the top sharp either if you drive them down low.

Say, why is that one pintail laid out on the canoe like that? [emoji183]
