    Mechanical question/transmission help

Truck is a chevrolet 07 classic with a v6 and auto transmission

When pulling my boat (small 17 foot center console) it alarmed transmission over heating at about 75-80mph. Pulled over checked fluids, idled until alarm went away. Back on highway and babied it at about 60mph with no temp issue. I don't pull much with this truck and figured I just need to baby it more when I do

Now with this cold snap weather it is really shifting bad after just starting it and driving. After it warms up about 4 minutes driving it shifts perfect. Turn it off restart hour later and it's fine but every cold morning it's shifting bad for a few minutes until it warms up.

Fluid levels are fine but it's nasty darkm...mixed emotions on changing as it has 170k on it been told it could do more bad than good. Anything else to look at?

I will have a mechanic check it out but was considering changing trannny fluid first?

Fluid and filter. Add a trans cooler. Start saving for an overhaul.

Change the fluid and filter as stated above. DO NOT JUST HAVE A FLUSH DONE! You might as well just have a new tranny put in if you do that.

At that mileage, and the color of the fluid....this is when I would let my customers know that I will service the trans, but it will most likely start shifting worse. Sorry but the damage is already done....you will need a new trans.....soon.

At the mileage posted its probably toast, and not sure if the V6 trucks came with trans coolers since they weren't really meant to tow. Servicing it now will only make it worse, new fluids on worn belts and clutches will lead to more slippage.

So mixed responses lol....I know it's on it's way out and I really wasn't even sure if I wanted to keep this truck or or upgrade to a new one since my wife's car is paid off.

I paid $2k for this truck over 100k miles ago by paying off the loan when a family member passed away and this is the first problem it's given me. I've gotten my money out of this truck a few times already.

I guess I'll end up rebuilding tranny and driving it another year
last tranny I had rebuilt ran about $1700 if I remember correctly on my last truck

Any idea what's its running now?should I go ahead and do it now or drive it till it stops? Will it make a difference in cost? It seriously runs great all day except for about 5 minutes first thing in the morning if it's cold outside. That's why I was hoping I cooked fluid and maybe it had some effect until tranny temp gets up but I'm not mechanic

Anyone know a good transmission shop in tomball/magnolia

I've used Tejas transmissions off of airline on aldine mail route a few times and they did a great job but I haven't ran around/worked on that side of town in years

Trans fluid is much more temp sensitive than motor oil. Overcook it a few times and will break down. I vote try new fluid.
