You will find that you will go thru many drills on your feeder

This 4:1 has worked fine thus far for me - but like Mike said... you will burn out a drill. I did on a different model and then just opted to upgrade to this winch. Honestly, this one has been fine for cranking back and forth, it can be done single handed with not much effort, it is just loud. Stock up on TSC coupons and make hay during a sale.

Minimum Dewalt 1/2 drill/driver hooked to your inverter. Personally I use a winch from Boss Buck on my feeders and now and I use the double pulley system, slower but less work on the winch and you. Now I take an 8' aluminum ladder and lower the feeders just enough to get the lid off and not have to stand on the top of the ladder and it has worked like a charm. You get a workout carrying 50# sacks of corn up a ladder, but that is only maybe 4 steps.

Lifting my feeders up above 6' to the motor has kept the cows from bothering it, staying under it and the pigs cannot reach it. It also spreads the corn in a farther radius and keeps the deer there longer looking for corn.

Don't buy a winch up feeder to hard to fill and dangerous. There are plenty of the stand and fill feeders that are out there that are safe and varmit proof. Just my opinion.

Disagree. I have been using winch up feeders for close to 30 years and never had one (knock on wood) fail, fall down or get turned over by hogs or cattle and since they have worked so well for me I will continue to use them and I like how far they sling corn (12 volt) and keep the deer in and around the feeder longer and besides, there is hardly a place a deer could not stand that I do not have a shot. But to each his own.
I do keep mine in tip top shape and check the pulleys and cable often for wear that could possibly mean a failure of some sort.

That’s the other thing I forgot to mention about the double pulleys to ease the strain on the drill, we have stand and fill protein feeders and our winch up feeders work without issues just wanted opinions on modifying what we already have

Only buy a winch that has a built in brake or a worm gear so it will not drop the load. I have been using winch up feeders for years and never had a problem. If you use a conventional boat winch and let go ov the handle without the latch in place it can be bad.
Don’t cheap out on the winch.

double the pulleys, half the effort, twice the number of turns---but that is what I use on 55-gal feeders. Have converted 3 of them to 30-gal trash can containers though.
