Maybe i have hit more deer than the avrage guy because i am on the road in the dark more than the average guy. And when they are rutting they may come over a fence from out of your view in a hurry. Which is what has happened on at least three ocasions. As for some of the stupid post's about huntin on the asphalt ranch, I guess some of us aren't mature enough to have intelligent debate. Sorry for getting a little frustrated

I know what you mean.I travel 190 into Cove at about 4:30 am.Average deer along the road 25-30 in a 5 mile stretch. The foggy mornings are the worse. At times the deer are right up on the pavement.About a year ago one ran out in front of me by the Dairy Queen.Surprised the heck outta me to say the least.

In the deal, you have to give up any horns however. If someone is truly worried about the meat then the horns are of no issue. Sign the tagged deer over and let the game warden toss the head. No wasted meat and you won't legally be able to horn hunt with your bumper. Problem solved.

My buddy was out with some other guys doing that once, and Rusty ended up getting thrown out of the pickup. He landed on his back with the shotgun on top of him (didn't go off). He broke a couple of ribs though.
But I don't think anybody would ever think about trying to run over a deer on purpose.
On a side note.....if any of y'all EVER see Zach doing something stupid like that, please kick his butt and then call me so I can kick it too. LOL!Last edited by Shane; 12-27-2008, 11:02 AM.

Back home (TN) these are the regs on it. I don't know anyone or never heard of anyone hitting one on purpose, for the meat or the rack.
All big game found dead should be left where found and need not be reported. Individuals wanting to keep big game found dead must first contact the local Regional TWRA office for authorization. Any vehicle in which an illegally possessed big game animal is found is subject to confiscation. Big game, except bear, accidentally killed by a motor vehicle may be possessed by any person for personal use and consumption if the TWRA or local law enforcement agency is notified within 48 hours. A bear killed by a motor vehicle may be possessed only upon the issuance of a receipt from the TWRA.
Plus even in an old beater.....have you ever seen damage from hitting a deer. I think if they did it once they would think twice before doing it again.
I saw 4 dead deer yesterday on the side of the road within a 1 mile stretch of Morgan Tx.

The deer and all other wildlife in Texas don't belong to the state, they belong to the public. That means we all own it. It's just the TPW's responsibility to manage it, so there's plenty for our kids and grandkids. Most GW's or any other law enforcement will give you the deer if it's hit, but some won't. MY FIL picked up a buck yesterday, after the local deputy told him he could have it. You gotta call the law to report it for your insurance anyway, so just ask them. Maybe they'll say okay.

Ok OK guys!!! Yall, are being so insensitive! Seriously!!! Have yall considered how "Bucky," the GWs' deer, will feel about this???I mean if we change the law to tagging road kill then we will have to try to trap guys purposely trying to hit deer. I can picture poor Bucky out there now, in the bar ditch, just waiting on Bubba to run him down!
Poor guy! Be considerate fellow TBH's!
