    Hagerman Scouting

My brother and I drew for segment B and we will be scouting tomorrow if anyone wants to tag along. We went this afternoon and saw a little deer sign and lots of hogs. Hopefully tomorrow we can pin point possible hunting spots. We scouted a lot during the hog hunt this year so we are back to check on the spots we found then and hopefully find a few more.

Snakes are still out be careful. Stepped on a cottonmouth yesterday. I guess I stepped directly on his head cause he didn't bite me but watch your step!

I went Friday. I almost stepped on a hog and found a green grass snake. I was very disappointed. Tons of hog sign, no deer sign.

Question: what do hunters do when they bring an animal to the check station with days left to hunt? Quarter up and ice in coolers? Local processor?

Skin and quarter it up behind the check station; run over to the grocery store in Pottsboro to get some more ice and leave it in the cooler. This is what I have done in the past.

I cleaned them at my campsite (hog and deer) and packed quarters in cooler.

You are allowed up to four (4) deer if you have the tags left so keep hunting.

And yes on quartering and icing down. Monday after the hunt some will take their bruiser into a taxi. Just sayin

Are we going to have to listen to that story again?
