    Protein feeding year round?

If you could feed protein at each feeder you have for a $70 investment and run pure protein for as little as $10 a month would you?

Yes but at my place they wouldn't be getting near enough like that

$10 a month you might as well not feed it. Thats not even a bag a month... During the summer we feed more like $300 every 3 weeks and thats just 2 feeders on 250 acres.

How many feeders do you have? I'm talking minimums with $10 per feeder

I gotcha. I'm looking at common corn feeding folks that don't have that budget for protein if that makes sense

I understand. But I just dont think its worth your money to do so. Wont be any real benefit. Look into alfalfa, or cottonseed, or something else that isnt quite so expensive as $11.50/bag. Imo food plots during the winter time are one of the best things you can do. Benefits the deer and really draws them in for you.

yeah - skimping on protein is not a good idea - for it to do any good it has to be all and as much as a deer wants to consume - otherwise it is a waste of money

What measures do you take to ensure it all, or at least a much a possible, is actually going to your deer??
Penning out hogs and trapping coons. Works pretty good

We do the same and a 1800lbs lasts 4 to 5 weeks at a time we have 18 across the lease.

                        Protein feeding year round?

We have three protein feeders running year round. They are 55 gallon drum feeders. They last roughly 3 weeks before needing to be filled up. So that’s roughly 1000 pounds a month or 6 tons a year. We also plant several food plots and have a couple wheat pastures for cattle. When the wheat is up, our protein consumption slows way down.

We don’t have high deer density here, but there are always 4-5 deer in each feed pen on the feeders morning and evening.

Out in the hill country we go through about a ton per month per feeder. During the summer they can empty a 3000lb feeder in 2 weeks.

I think you should do what you can with in your budget. If one bag a month is Walmart you have then do that. I would save it for using it just oct-Jan. And use $30 a month on protein. You would be using it for an attractant not for building bigger horns. It might be. A draw that your neighbor does not have
