When a deer is heart shoot they will travel differently from a lung shot, I've seen them run into trees, through bushes....seems to be on a high run and not looking for anything in their path....

Yep. Final act of defiance, get a little revenge, make it is as difficult a recovery as possible.

I believe it to be the natural instinct of prey, when mortally wounded, to make it as difficult as possible for predators to find their body. If the predator can't find them, less food for the predator. Always stick with the blood.
