    Chasing Does North of Austin

I just witnessed a mature buck in full blown rut North of Austin. I know very well the stages of the rut but this buck's legs were black from hocks to hooves and his doe wasn't leaving his sight. I don't recall seeing mature bucks beginning this early. It IS a very densely populated deer area with the ratio jacked beyond belief but I didn't think it would happen so early. Interesting....

Believe there was a thread last week stating similar activity for that area. Many that I recall seeing lots of rut activity.

I’ll post this again....for this year. This site should have a sticky

Breeding times for an area follow a Bell curve. Some does come in early, some come in late. The “peak” happens the same time every year.

yep. and the bucks are ready as soon as the velvet is shed.
