    Flex it first.

How many of you guys and girls check your carbon arrows, and what method do y'all use and look for?
I need to start checking mine.

I don't but if I shot a compound it probably is a good idea
simply grab each end and bend. If it does not splinter or break.....its good

I visually inspect for splinters - especially on the nock end. I also flex the arrows and listen for any cracking sound.

I always flex them walking back from target. I also twist to make sure I don't feel or hear anything going on. Pictures of carbon shards through someone's wrist is a pretty good reminder to do this every time.

What if the splint is very very light are they still shootable?

Arrows are cheaper than a dr visit. I wouldn't risk it.

Google some pics and judge for yourself.

I'm just asking because I retired one arrow because of this but didn't know if the splint has to be any particular size is all

Sure, you could still shoot it if you would like but it is not worth taking an arrow through the hand to me. A $10-$20 arrow or a $1000+ hospital bill? Yea, I'll take the $20 arrow every time. If you have not seen them, look up "arrow through the hand".

The integrity of the arrow is now compromised and who knows when that little bitty splinter will turn into a massive failure. 1000 shots? 10 shots? Who knows?

Having had an arrow break on release, let me be the first to tell you it’s not worth it. But then again, you’re a grown man and make your own decisions.

No flex for me, I shoot FMJ’s.

always flex and taught my son the same. Flex before we start to practice, then flex the arrow every two shots. Only takes a second to flex them. I usually do it after I pull them and am walking back to my shooting line. If I hit an arrow or if my arrow sounds like it hit something hard in the target I will flex immediately. Not worth it for such a quick and simple check.
