Headed to Surfside this weekend. Need help with wade fishing.

So I am a bass/crappie fisherman but I HAVE to go to a wedding this weekend down there and by God I’m going wade fishing. I know nothing about Surfside other than the in-laws rented a beach house down there. I’ve been to Grand Isle on a few guided trips. Couple for trout on the flats, and out by the rigs for snapper. My question is what to bring where to go????? I have two 7’ spinning rods with large reels and 20lb mono on each.
Gonna put about a three foot leader with a swivel and egg sinker. With a big snell hook and shrimp. Sound about right? Or popping corks be better. Any tips and information is highly appreciated since I’m pretty blind to all this. Thanks

If it were me I would get a brown/char TTF1 and a 1/4 oz or 1/8 oz jig head and go wade the surf. Or a bone spook jr and wade the surf. Anytime of day you should catch something if its not too windy.

Texas tackle factory trout killer 1. They have the 2 which has a split tail. I dont like it because little fish always go for the tail and rip it off.

The buckee's in Freeport has a bunch of fishing gear if you forget your plastics, jigheads or whatever. I usually have pretty good luck at the mouth of the brazos river over by Quintana beach and usually catch a few trout. Good luck!

Live shrimp, under the popping cork. Wade to 2nd sand bar and get your line wet..

That sounds easy enough. How deep is it the cross to get to the second sandbar?

With the storm out there in the gulf the surf will be too ruff to wade. It's redfish time out there anyway. Get some crabs from one of the bait camps and break them in half. put a 6/0 circle hook thru the bottom and out a leg hole. Throw it into the second gut and hold on. You can also catch a lot of Whiting on dead bait right now. The waters not going to be very pretty this weekend so adjust your tactics. Good luck, Kevin

Be careful wading the mouth of the brazos if you've never been there. Sand bar always changing and can be pretty dangerous. Life vest is good idea.

Nothing to see there. There are no redfish in the surf! Stay out of the surf. Have I mentioned there are no redfish in the surf?
