Blacktail

Was hearing something in the brush just outside my pop-up for a long while. Figured it was a mouse or maybe some large insect. Decided to head back to camp a little early for no particular reason but good that I did. Could have been disastrous if I waited until dark.

I unzipped the door and heard a buzzing sound. Was that a rattler? Peeking out, this guy was coiled up right where I would have first stepped leaving the blind.



I had my pistol with me and quickly put an end to him. Blacktail rattlesnake.

I found one of those blacktail rattlers in the camphouse back in April. They will get your attention!

Those are cool lookin snakes. That one would be getting skinned and tanned.

One good thing about the Black Tailed Rattlesnake is they're not known to be very aggressive and their venom is very mild compared to most rattlesnakes. Not that,that would help your anxiety if you were bitten but your chances of surviving a bite from one are pretty good if you could keep from having a panic attack and passing out cold right there where you got bit.
