Day to bow hunt. To sling an arrow at an animal. And his first kill with a bow.
This past Christmas my oldest son(13) asked for a bow. He sees how much joy I get from shooting my bow and how excited I get when I hunt with it. Kill or no kill.
So he got a diamond Infinity edge.
He has practice every chance he got. And got good out to 20 yards. 20 being his max range.
Opening morning he had three does come in to the feeder. 15 yard shot. But no shot taken. He got nervous and opted not to shoot. I'm very proud of him for making that choice.
After the morning hunt we had some target time which boosted his confidence. 2pm he was ready to get back in the stand.
At 6:25pm I get the text that flooded me with joy and excitement. The text read " I just shot a doe. A little back but lots of blood.". I couldn't get out of the stand fast enough. I jogged back to camp and got the truck.
When I arrived he was waiting in the road, bow in hand. With a huge smile. His first words were " I already found blood and marked it.". So we took up the trail. After about 80 yards I look up and there she layed. The look and smile on his face was awesome. We hugged and I congratulated him.
A few pix and the work began.
I'm proud of you Levi. This is a year of first. This year he got his hunters safety. He will be hunting on his own. Picking his own deer. His own shots. He has grown up in the woods and any fishable body of water. And age 13 has become a great young man. And is one of my best friends and favorite hunting buddies.
