Flaming curl??

I'm sitting in my stand right now and u had a beautiful new buck come in. He is a 6x5 but I age him at 3.5. He and one other buck went to the same spot, smelt the ground and then did the flaming curl. Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't that mean they are smelling a doe in heat?? It is way to early for them to start the rut out here in Bastrop county!!

Not necessarily in heat, but they are scent checking to find out

Ok, thank you. I was thinking when they did that. They where saving that scent to find the doe in heat. Lol I guess I just took the info I was given wrong

If you have two bucks smelling the same spot and doing a "flaming curl" id say you have a problem on your hands.

Watched this guy do the same thing several times this morning. Even made 2 scrapes. Peed in them and all. No other bucks with him. Bosque county.

I've always heard it simply called a lip curl. Flehmen response is also correct but nerdy even for me.
