    crossbow rest ideas

Hey guys and gals, trying to come up with an idea to manufacturer or modify a rest or an existing product I don't know about to help stabilize a crossbow on a tripod for my father.
I had the good fortune to be able to find and afford a hunting lease for my father and myself this year. Whatever it turns into will be a blessing. we have two tripods set up over a feeder and a trail for archery hunting. He has transitioned to a crossbow from a bow but we are sharing all our spots between us and guests. I would like to maintain the open front of the tripod and quadpod for bow hunting, yet be able to put up an adjustable rest for supporting the crossbow in that situation.. any ideas or known solutions?
has anyone done something like this?

not sure if this will work for you but i bought one of these for my son to use with his crossbow, it works great in our pop up. check around though, i found it on amazon for $49

Shooting rests minimize movement, speed up target acquisition and increase effective shooting range...

I was able to position my tripod in the forks of a Live Oak tree. I then screwed a piece of 2"x 4" across two limbs as my rest and padded it. Worked great for x-bow but was in the way for my compound since it was permanent. I could have modified the way I mounted the rest to be able to take it off or hinged it to swing out of the way. You could look into a camera arm that could swing into position for x-bow and then out the way for archery. Google them and you will find many of them and some are reasonable in price-$30 and up. Here the low end on my search: http://www.discountramps.com/kill-sh...arm/p/CM-HLDR/

I didn't think about a swing out arm, not sure in the tripod if I have a tree trunk close enough, but got he wheels spinning, thanks

yes that would be great in the ground blind. I think in a pod in the air maybe a mono-pod might be an option

I think Caldwell makes a tripod arm mount kit.

The Cauldwell one above works good. There is also the Tru-Glo Hip Pod, Mono-pods and bipods from several makers. There is one I fgorget whi makes it but is a monopod with a 3 legged base for more support.
Really about any portable rest for guns that do not get into the path of the string will work for an x-bow.

I got a used camera tripod, cheap. Its very stable and portable. I throw bolts from quadpod and hub blind accurately sitting or standing.

Have that one too. I use for my rifle when in a ground blind, going to try using it with my xbow.

The TenPoint Steddy Eddy is basically a mono-pod for crossbows.

I used a camera tripod for my 7 month old grandson last year. I mounted the attachment that would normally fit onto the camera onto the crossbow. Then he could rest the bow on the tripod and swivel and tilt. Was pretty neat!

thanks this looks like a simple versatile solution for a couple different applications.
