    Anyone else dealing with FSA?

I'm working with the FSA folks on some cows I lost in the flood and they've been helpful so far but I'm trying to figure out why they need copies of the deeds on my leased pastures. The only answer I've been able to get is, "It's policy".

I don't mind doing the leg work but I'm getting some resistance from one of the landowners. She feels like she should be compensated basically because a few cows died on her property. I already took care of the fences that were damaged, replaced a couple of hay rings, and burned or buried all the dead cows. Can't I just go to the courthouse and get a copy of the deed? I'd assume they only need the info. to verify the property was in an area that received a significant amount of flooding. I just don't want her to cause problems for me if they contact her directly.

Edit: I signed a 5 year contract on this place with her Mother in November of 2013. Her Mother has since passed and left everything to her so now I'm dealing with a spoiled rotten, 23 year old, "Ranch Owner"

I work for USDA, but not FSA. They need a recorded deed, from courthouse is fine usually, as long as it's a recorded deed. My guess is that this piece of property is not in their system. They need a deed to update their system with the current owner, and then they'll look at the paperwork to make sure that the person who is leasing you the property is the actual owner and who has authority to lease the property.

Thanks a bunch. That's the most info. I've been able to get in two weeks!

If you have any other questions send me a PM. I'm quite disappointed with how a lot of USDA offices treat their producers.

That all sounds like a big headache. Good luck with it.

I sure will. Thanks for the insight.

I'm afraid it's only the beginning.

You should be able to get a recorded copy of the deed fairly easily at the county courthouse. Go to the county clerk's office and tell them what you need...they should be able to help you find it.

It would be the toughest money you ever earn..

OP - Over here you would just go by the Probate Judge or Tax Assessor office to get a Certified/Stamped Copy of the Deed and/or Assessment Sheet. Should only cost a few bucks.

My FSA office will call the courthouse and have them send one over without the producer having to deal with it. All depends on where you are located. Either way it shouldn't be hard.
