I doubt in my lifetime I will ever encounter a spike with a 13" spread. If I do then I will know the rule unless it changes again by then!

Still want to see pics of this deer!

Sorta. LOL.....but it is something I see on here all the time as mentioned above.

We weren't born knowing everything... oh and the spike/unbranched antler argument again? Really? Everyone knew what he meant. Must we really debate the semantics?
Yes we must!! You're not a real nurse!!

Unbranched is unbranched. Knowing that regulatory intent of AR regs was to allow hunters -- particularly voting hunters in East Texas -- a chance at a trophy deer (13-inch spread or more) and a "meat" deer -- unbranched antlered deer, then the unbranched antlered deer is simply that, regardless of width. I have stayed in a Holiday Inn Express....

Not the OPs but a Google pic. Not sure how wide he is but heck this would be a trophy buck to me!

I'd love to shoot one like that. I hope the OP will post a 14" wide spike

So I talked to my game warden just to confirm my answer. He stated the laws don't cover every single scenario, but based on the intent of the law you could kill a spike that is over 13" and still be allowed to take a branched antlered buck that is over 13"

Still hoping the OP gets pics of the deer in question.

We even have keyboard warriors on the GS but no where as many as on AT. Wonder if there are any snowflakes too?

And, IMO the GW consulted in the post just above this needs to read the book.

Good luck killing him. I think that would be an awesome trophy. Hope to see an LDP of him!

Seems like the right answer and personally I cant understand the confusion.
A spike is a spike no matter how wide it happens to be 6"-20" still a spike.

Heck there are GW out there letting hunters go with deer that have a spread inside 13". It's confusing stating what a legal buck is and then previous statement in the book saying "but only ONE" can have a 13" spread. Unbranched antler does not apply so I do see that. Parting with you the more I read it! It's Monday and season opens Saturday! Hurry up wknd!

Either way a spike with main beams like mentioned has to be an old deer! I want to see it. It will help clear up all of this.
No it can't. It cannot go both ways. Stop arguing. The bottom sentence trumps the 13 inch rule..
