First year to hunt without TC pics

Well, due to unforseen circumstances I will be hunting without having much of an idea of what will show up.......on EITHER of my ranches. Usually I get the chance to scout for months but due to a multitude of issues I wont have a clue what will show up. First ranch has been one I have taken several friends to hunt with me. Theyve all been incredibly successful but this last year the landowner and I have butted heads enough that literally no one but me and another guy will be allowed to hunt. Because we werent sure if we would even be hunting it, i hadnt really put effort into it but instead spent the year just working here at home. Well, since then I picked up a very awesome, rural, unhunted in previous years but very strict ranch in hunt, tx. Me and two other guys started managing it just a month or so ago and just hadnt gotten the chance to get the cameras working consistently. What pictures we have gotten are of a great sika stag (buck, bull whatever theyre called) and a few whitetail doe and young bucks and a good herd of pigs. One feeder hadnt really even attracted anyone lol. Its slinging corn but nadda has come to it. So I have made the decision to leave the camera worry for another year to let the set ups "soak". This is the first year I dont have a hit list or a hope he shows up list lol. Its actually way more exciting and makes me feel in some ways sneakier. Ive paid more attention to my setups, the summer wind and the winter wind. It has almost made me want to forget the cameras at all!

Ive never used a trailcam and I love not knowing what i might see. Anticipation is the main element in hunting that makes it what it is.

      This is me.
      No cameras out
      Not even any feeders
I'm going purely by tracks, scrapes and the fact they keep eating my fruit tree limbs

We'll see what's out there whenever it pops up

I like the element of surprise

Yep, the element of surprise is all on us lol. Like the big axis buck i shot, i have shot so many deer that i had forgotten what buck fever felt like. THAT was an awesome feeling I surely missed!

I killed the biggest buck of my life the year I didn't run cameras. Was it because I never went to the feeders to pull cards? Who knows. Although I killed that deer on one of my first sits, it was a fun year hunting without knowing what was coming to the feeders.

I'm pretty much a pig hunter, so although I like killing deer, I use cameras to pattern hogs year round. Wireless cams have helped me have a record year killing pigs with a bow.

I like not knowing also. But I killed my second best bow buck last week here in Missouri. And if I wasn't getting pictures of him every day there's no way in hell I would have went and set in my blind in the 95 degree heat.

I've quit using trail cams for this year also. I just didn't trust them because I'd see deer walk past em and not get a picture. I arrowed my best buck last year on a property without a camera on it and really liked the not knowing. So this year I'm not using them also.

Good luck to you all. Hope you kill giants. I got alot of cams out and will not hunt without them. i could see way to many 4 year olds killed just by they walk in and get your blood pumping. I like to know what is there and plan accordingly. that way I am not caught in buck fever and make a mistake. Also helps me help the guys who hunt my place on same page as who is a shooter and who is not.

I'm a fan of GCs, but at the same time sometimes the suspense of not knowing what's going to show up is prettt cool!

I think because ive killed so many deer at this point that the fear of shooting something too young is almost non existent. Im perfectly happy to kill culls and doe without even considering a trophy unless its seriously older, and i think my goal for age is somewhere close to 7 and up. No 4 or 5 year olds for me. Ive got plenty of those under my belt. Plus. My wall cannot support anymore taxidermy lol. Wife says it had better be worth taking one down.

Haven't had a trail cam pic for a few years from any of the three places I hunt. It has brought back an enjoyment I didnt realize was absent.

We got sick and tired of all the hassle keeping the cameras working and just junked them it's just like it u sed to be now. You judge them as you see them. If you make a bad call....so be it...es lo que es....

I dont like shooting young deer either, but that 3 to 4 jump is so big on my place that the horn sometimes sways my guys to want to shoot. 140+ inch deer rolls in low light looks like a giant. Rather know he was there than have my guys say they just shot a giant and it be a giant, but killed 3 years early.

Tex cattleman thats exactly how i feel. I never knew what i had lost until i shot that huge axis. Didnt even know he was there until he popped out. That feeling I used to get came right back! I completely understand why we use them but im thinking, at least on my place, maybe we dont really need them?
