    About to tan some snakes....rattle?

Do you guys remove the rattles from the skins before tanning? Not sure if the process will infiltrate the rattle buttons and damage them or not.

I'm submerging them in 50/50 alcohol and glycerin.

No I just tack the skin to a board and brush it on the skin.

Heck no. The rattle on the skin is the best part. I have a hat band I made from a rattle snake skin I tanned with rattle attached 40 years ago and it is still going strong.

Is there any advantage to doing the stretch and tan method as opposed to the submerge method?

        Thanks guys!

I've seen it done both ways but the times I've seen it after being submerged was they just went ahead and tacked it to a board afterwards. I just see it as doing it the other way as killing two birds with one stone and not wasting as much of your snake tannin stuff.
