              I can't speak for SpaceEx, but for Blue Origin, the return capsule actually does, but that's still too hard of a hit for the return capsule as well as the main stage. The return capsule has basically a controlled explosion right before it touches down that makes the landing soft in combination with parachutes.

              My friend is a rocket designer at Blue Origin. They do some pretty awesome stuff to say the least.
