    Freezer Trouble

It looks like one of the kiddos left the freezer door slightly open last night and we didn't notice it until this afternoon. Everything is still cold, but thawed. I assume we can't refreeze any of it... there is a lot of trout, some ducks and a little deer left over. I plan on giving a decent amount away, but does anyone one have any recipes I can use to cook tonight/tomorrow and then freeze? I was thinking of doing a chili, maybe a gumbo, and make something for dinner tonight and tomorrow. Any ideas with backstrap?

And yes on the chili! We make a ton of chili at times and then freeze in plastic containers in smaller portions. Pretty easy to set a couple tubs of it out and reheat.

I don't know about y'all but I have defrosted and refroze meat numerous times.

I cube all my deer meat up and freeze it until I'm ready to grind then a dethaw it , grind it and refreeze it.

I've never had an issue at all.

I wont refreeze seafood that is completely thawed but I have refrozen everything else multiple times. I think its an old wives tale that you cant do that.

Yep. Thaw out deer meat. Grind or make sausage. Re-freeze. No issues.

                  Fire up the Smoker...

I had this same issue after Ike. Everything went to the smoker, and then into recipes. Smoked Deer Chili is amazing, Smoke sirloins are great.
