    auto insurance question

My wife was dropping off the kids at school and was hit from behind by another vehicle. We took our 2015 suburban in to a body shop for an estimate. They did the estimate with oem parts. The person that hit us is covered by Met Life. They sent their adjuster out today to do an estimate. Their estimate was done using aftermarket parts and a reconditioned front bumper cover.

I would like to have them use OEM parts if possible. I don't really want them to use aftermarket parts or the reconditioned bumper cover. Is there anything I can do to get them to use better parts? Is this how all insurance companies work?

Thats a downside to some cheaper insurance companies where they use LKQ parts.

I dont believe there is anything you can do since they are offering to repair the vehicle, if they denied the claim, you could probably subrogate if your company repairs based on OEM and they would just sue to get the company's funds back from Metlife.

Im just an insurance agent, not a claims rep so take what I said with a grain of salt.

You insurance company should cover it then fight it out with the other insurance company. Shouldn't be your issue to worry about.

I too am not an insurance agent though.

I had the same questions that the OP asked after I was involved in a similar car crash (I was the "hittee" the other guy was the hitter). My insurance agent told me that what the other guy's insurance company wanted to do was completely legal and acceptable. He said the only time I could complain and have a leg to stand on was if the repair was unacceptable due to it being obviously defective in appearance and/or function. The repair was done well, and if you didn't know it, you would never have guessed the car was involved in an accident.

        Good luck,

        Dave

You can do it under your insurance and have them subrogate with the other insurance company. I do that a lot for my clients. Downside is you will have to pay deductible. It will however get refunded to you once subrogation is finished.
