Considering pulling the trigger next month on some gear. For those that have it, Are their rain jackets pretty insulated for warmth? Any recommendations on particular jackets pants etc?

Kuiu gear question

I bought alot of gear from them I used in Alaska caribou hunting two weeks ago. It performed perfectly. But their customer service is horrible. Enough so that I will not buy from them directly anymore.
I bought the chucach nx rain suit top and bottom. There's days I should have worn it, but I also bought a kuiu Chinook jacket. The Chinook jacket had excellent water repellency on it's own. We had light rain but more snow than anything. Both the Chinook and chugach rain jackets I bought aren't insulated much but excellent for layering. Both cut the wind well, and both had put zips to dump heat. Both are very light and easily packable.
I did buy kuiu kenai insulated pants I wore over Merino wool base layers and under a set of skre pants. The outer pants were the only thing I didn't buy kuiu.
The gaitors, puffy insulated vest and pants, pack , rain gear ect all did extremely well, but like I said I will not order from them again.
I did buy a pair of skre pants off camo fire. They kept me dry as well. I sent an fb message to them before I bought the pants and within 10 minutes received a message and it was almost 1 am. And the pants were ever bit as good as the kuiu gear.
Skre will pay shipping both ways if you get something that doesn't fit. Kuiu will not. Spend your money with someone that actually cares you are spending alot of hard earned money with them.
Also for what it's worth we had 4 guys. I had all kuiu except for outer pants (skre), one guy was completely first lite, one guy was completely Sitka, and one guy was all Badlands but kenetrek gaitors. All 4 sets of gaitors and gear and 4 different people and not one person had wet feet or any complaints about the gear. We had light rain, wind snow, cold, and very wet walking conditions and we all stayed dry and warm.Last edited by doublearrow; 09-12-2017, 12:40 AM.

Whatever you get.. go first lite on the base layers. Their merino is much softer than the rest so there is no itching.
I'm running FL bases, kuiu attack pants, and guide Dcs jacket for most of my hunting. I'd also recommend the FL puffy.. also if you're looking for athletic gear, and you'll be doing lots of walking, look at prana Zion pants. Cheaper than the rest and have a massive following.

I ran the ultra merino 145 LS zip T last year with the Peloton 200 shirt and, like others have said, I just wore Prana stretch zion pants last year for my late September elk hunt. It all worked great. I picked up the puffy vest for this years hunt. The Ultra NX rain suit is pretty light weight. Their Chugach and Yukon systems are much more heavier duty. The Yukon probably being a little overkill unless you're gonna be 7+ days up in Alaska or Canada
Listen to some of the Jay Scott Outdoors podcasts where he has either Jason Hairston or Brendan Burns on talking about their gear for their sheep hunts and they really break down the specifics of what all their gear is meant to do.

I keep hearing that the customer service is not good, but my experience has been the opposite. Had an issue with the wrong pack size being sent. Called them and they sent the correct size overnight at no cost for my upcoming hunt. The guy at Kuiu called the next day to make sure i had it. Great follow though. Additionally, my son had a water bladder that leaked. A simple email and they shipped me a new one no questions asked. I have had several orders and no issues so far. Gear has held up well. Too the Icon 7200 pack on a 12 days elk hunt in Montana, (9 days hiking) and it was excellent and comfortable.
