    Feeder mod for Duke traps

Going to do all 4 legs. Did 2 tonight as the Feeder is 100 yard behind the house and it's out of corn.

I hope your feeder legs are at least 4' apart. Mine were not and I would catch one coon in two traps every time.

Good to know, I'll shorten the chain.

I hope your welds are strong! I also had to quit using those chain links after 2 coons unscrewed them and stole the traps. I use a lock and key now. I am convinced they can pick a combo lock!! Great idea

Your the second person that said they unscrewed them. I tighten mine with a wrench and have caught a bunch with no problems yet but we'll see.

That'll work if you have a welder and can get it to your feeder.

I drilled a hole through my feeder leg with a cordless drill and used a heavy duty eye bolt. Same principle but I didn't have to lug the welder out into my hunting area. [emoji1474]

I like the mod. Next time I break my feeder down and repaint, I'm going to add those.

No problems here with the links on my feeder sets but I make sure I spin them until they bottom out. I have a hard time thinking a one handed coon could break human hand tight. Maybe one that doesn't get spun down but a couple of twists, yes...but not a full tightening by hand..

This works or you could wrap the chain around the leg and attach it to itself which is easier, cheaper and shortens the chain. The down side is you don't have to use a welder or power tool.

True but I was trying to keep the coons from climbing up the feeder leg and keep my quick link out of the mud.

All these folks have already been wrapping the chain around the leg including myself. They/we are just looking for a better "mousetrap".

This is what happens when a coon rides the chain up a feeder leg...he climbed up the feeder leg and then climbs over the solar panel wire and falls off.....he hangs there all night until a 22 ended the destruction of my crap. We have shortened that chain and closed the loops down... but still would like to add the permanent mount like above.
