    Wire size?

I need to run a 320 amp service to a breaker panel that is 200' away, I'm assuming no aluminum? What size and type wire will I need?

350 MCM Copper in 4" conduit.
You will need a disconnect. Fused is probably easier to find.
Might want to split the feed into a trough and run a couple of 200 amp mains depending on what you are loading to it.

I'm not an electrician, but are you SURE? what you are asking for?

well the power company set a meter base at the road and its 200 feet to my house.. getting power from the meter to the house was not in the electrical bid (which I knew about up front)

I want to do something similar. Can I ask what the going rate is for dropping the meter base?

Did they set a transformer at the road or a completed base?
Usually, the electric company gives you a meter base (can) and you build the service to hang on your own pole on your property. They may charge you a drop and connect dee, but I have never heard of a utility company supplying a completed meter base.

Also, 350 amps is pretty freaking big......... like commercial buildings, etc.
I built a house with 8000 square under the roof and use a 350 amp base and had to kick PEC a bunch just to get it.

There are some people way more smarter than me on this. They will have better q's and a's.

The power company set a pole, transformer, and meter socket. I had to take it from there to a temp panel right underneath.. I did 320 because I'm gonna have 100 amp breaker in there feeding my shop..

Bump for you and I'm just gonna hang around and see what others say.
I can see $5000+ materials alone before its all said and done, not including trenching.
Also, 100 amp breaker is very small for a shop if you plan on doing any wood or metal work in it.

I think you should talk to electric co about that much power. Most meter poles that I have seen are rated for 200 amps. You can go to one of the electric places and they can tell you how big of wire you need. Why not put the service pole closer to your house.
Our company ran the power lines close to our house. Most will pay for the first $1000.00
worth of line. Then set meter pole another 75 feet closer to house/shop. If you are wanting 200 amp for house then 100amps 0r more for your shop them it might be cheaper to set two meter poles. One for house and one for shop which could be written off on tax for what ever you dream up

How big is your house? Is shop for personal use or business? Depending on size of house and what shop is used for I doubt you use more then 125 amp at any given time.

I'm thinking 4K material if I go copper... I would think with metal work 100 amps would be more than enough.. my be wrong though..

I would of ran the meter closer but they only would do it above ground and I'd rather have the pole at the road VS power lines all the way to the house.. it was an extra $125 for the meter base that was rated for 320..

I was thinking I would prob not use more than 200 but not 100% sure.. house is 3300 living, shop for personal use
