No reason it shouldn't work, if wired the same way unless it's a bad switch.

Did you turn the breaker back on? I'm a problem solver.[emoji51]

Instead of using the plug in for the wire you should be able to put 2
wires under the screw without using a hook on the wire
The clamp under the screw will hold them . If you have the wires paired correctly
no reason for it not to work

            Green wire to green screw
            Whites tied together
            Black on bottom "gold" screw
            Black on top gold screw

If they were the "hots" that were supposed to be tied together, and you got them mixed up, either the light should be on all the time, and something down stream of the switch is turned on by the switch, or something downstream and the light should come on.

The whites are the neutrals and should be tied together, they just feed through.
That's what I was thinking. OP, is there outlet tied into that circuit? Possibly a table lamp.

OR a wire broke inside the wire nut

Not that I can find. I'll mess with it tomorrow when I haven't had so much whiskey.

There's one plug in that bathroom and it works whether the switch is on or not. Nothing down the hall either.

Anything is possible, but that's doubtful considering it worked originally then didn't work with the decora switch and works again with the 1st switch installed.

FYI if the old switch has on and off stamped on it is not a 3 way

there is no reason that should not work. you have to make sure the 2 wires that are on same end of the current switch, are on the "off" end of the new switch. They have to be on the "off" end so the outlet being powered by the extra black wire will always have power. But even if you got that wrong, your light should work correctly, but the outlet would only work if the switch was "on". something does not make sense......
