Polaris Ranger 1000 or Mule Pro FXT

My Dad is looking for a new crew cab sxs. He's had a diesel mule for the last 12 years and its getting some age. He mainly uses it for working around his place, feeding cows, fixing fence and hunting. Not really any play, but does want something with some pep if he wants to gas on it. He's went and drove both. The power of the 1000 ranger is unreal and the bed size is a little bigger than the mule. The Mule shifts much nicer, is very quite and appears to be a little more heavy duty. I've got a ranger 900 and it's sometimes hard to get the gear just right without grinding and it jerks when you ease the gas.
We hunt in a river bottom area and the gumbo clay can get bad. He's gonna put a 4" lift and 28" tires on it.
What is everyones recommendation and why??

Mule is my recommendation. My Dad has a Ranger, my best friend has an FXT. I would much rather ride in the FXT. It is quieter, more reliable, and easier to maneuver than a 4 seat Ranger. Plus, that extra bed length on the FXT is nice to have when you need it.

I have never ridden in the 1000 but love my FXT!! I have taken it through some pretty rough terrain and some mud and never had a problem. It sounds like his other mule served him pretty well.

Questions for those who know: Is the FXT really quieter than the Ranger? And which one is more comfortable to ride in?

I hope to be making the same decision soon as the OP. Carry on.

I think it beats the Ranger in both categories. Its nice to have the extra bed too when you dont have extra passengers. Dad uses ours most of the time by himself around the place and can utilize the full bed. Still plenty of bed when you shorten it too for hunting purposes.

I guess I'm different than everyone else, or just everyone else that has commented owns the FXT.
I have the ranger crew 900, a close friend has the crew 1000 and another has the pro FXT. When I first saw and rode in the FXT I was very impressed that Kawasaki finally made a nice smooth riding machine and that would go faster than 30mph. Last dove season was when we all decided we didn't like it. When we were shuttling people to hunting spots the rangers were doing just fine fully loaded with 6 men and gear but the FXT fully loaded was bottoming out and over heating. Ever sense its just one thing after another with it. It's been in the shop probably 6-8 times. If you don't ever see yourself having much weight in it then yeah it's a nice machine. But personally I like the ranger.
And the rangers are not very loud at all.

We have a steel high rack on the 1000 and hunt with 2-3 guys up top and another 3-4 in the bottom. It does best when you keep it in low but it doesn't struggle at all. And hardly drops the suspension down.

Our Ranger crew rides smooth as butter. Way smoother than any truck I have ridden in. Haven't rode in a new FXT for more than just a minute so can't really compare.

I haven't ridden in an FXT and maybe the Ranger 1000 is louder than the 900XP but my 900XP can barely be heard when idling and is super quiet when driving. I've had it at 55mph and pushed the gas and it will throw your head back at that speed. We pull my 18 foot pipe top trailer miles over the lease loaded down with corn and protein and it does just fine. No experience with the FXT but the Mule I rode in Oklahoma last fall was a newer model (don't know which one), was a smooth ride but had zero get up and go.

i have always had rangers. I had the opportunity to ride in the FXT a couple weekends ago and I have to admit it surprised me on how good it performed. if I were in the market right now it would be a hard decision.

In the past Mule's are louder, don't ride as smooth, but slightly heavier duty IMO.

For what your saying I would vote Ranger

                            Experienced almost the same deal.

Ford Chevy, Polaris Kawasaki...tell your Dad to go ride each and see what he likes.

You won't get any unbiased opinions here lol.

The New Pro's are really nice. They ride nice, low noise for sure. But it appears that when designing this machine they ran out of money right before adding seats to the UTV. The seats are so basic and hard and thin. I can not believe that is the seat they chose for that machine. I would really consider buying one if they put better seats in them. The machine is a really nice machine other than the seats..
