Been through a bunch as a native Houstonian born in '70. Got a few scars and almost got killed during one of them. Back at it tomorrow night with 12 hour shifts for the Sheriff's Office. Good times!

Worked several over the years. Went through 4! Charlie, Jeanne, Ivan, and Rita!! Charlie and Jeanne went right over us! I was working for Motiva in Tampa when Charlie was headed that way and they evacuated us to Orlando! Couple days of chaos there I got back to my hotel in Tampa and the power had never even went out! was sitting high up in the Raddison on Tampa bay writing up claims from Orlando and Daytona area when Jeanne came! I watched it suck all the water out the bay at first then after the eye water was washing over the causeway! The building was shaking and the windows were dripping but I would wipe it up and keep on hacking away at the computer!!
Rita wasn't bad where I was but an adjuster buddy has to come stay in my apartment for a couple days! He was somewhere near the coast in a POS RV he towed from W Tx and somehow got to S La. They closed his office to evacuate everybody and he was so wiped out he went and bought a bunch of beer and passed out in his RV! He woke up to rain pouring in and the roof flapping! Went outside to throw everything of value in his truck and water was knee deep! He got lucky and got out the park with most his belongings and his life! We still laugh about that! If you've ever been too drunk to evacuate a hurricane you might be an adjuster!!![emoji2]

We evac'd before the eye hit and hid @ ACC....with a hunert other idiots!
        Same here. Alicia...

We were new Houston residents at the time from Podunk, Kentucky and truly had no idea what was going on. No electricity... I remember Dad cooking on a little Hibachi grill we had off the back stoop and boiling drinking water also. Dad had caught a 25lb Amberjack off one of the jetties the week before and had it in the freezer waiting for the taxi, but Alicia ruined that plan.

The eye came right over us too and I remember going out and swimming in the apartment complex's pool during the eye-time. The sky was a crazy red color. Then all heck broke loose again and we high-tailed it back to the apartment.

The craziest thing that happened was while we were all siting in the living room staring at a blank TV set, the front door suddenly opened by itself and immediately slammed back closed. Two seconds later, the back door did the same exact thing. It was like someone had just RUN through our house.

        Craziness.

The eye of Hurricane Alicia passed right over my house. I remember how hard the storm was blowing in one direction then the weather got nice for a few minutes and started storming the other direction

Don't think the idea of a bucket list is to have items that speed up the kicking of ones bucket.

Yep. Alicia was my first. 8yrs old. No power for 2 weeks too. Took baths in the creek. Wasnt too bad being a kid. Been through every one since then. But that was just north of Tomball so it wasnt too bad compared to Houston/Galveston. Now Im up near Plantersville so its even less intense. But we still get the rain.....not looking forward to it this time but made it through Allison and Ike here so as long as we dont get a tornado it should just be a few long wet days....

I've ridden many of them out along the coast and offshore on ships. Gulf, Atlantic and Caribbean. Rode Hurricane Hugo out SW of St Croix back in 1989 and then went into St Croix for 2 weeks and then over to Puerto Rico in Hurricane Recovery mode.

Rode out some Bering Sea storms west of Alaska - that would rival any Hurricane. 100 mph winds & 60ft seas in 28 degree water.

20 years in the Coast Guard - you deal with Mother Nature annually.

Got to experience Rita and Ike. Said after Ike I would start leaving. Watching and waiting on this one.

I rode Stephanie in 83. What a hurricane! I was young and stupid. Now I'm old and stupid.

Last storm that is similar to this one had to be about 10 years ago & knocked the power out for 2 days & was still mild for out area as I expect this one to be...I had to hide out on the roof of my house to get away from the heat complaints, like I could fix it.

Still, never been through a ringer & can tell you the best stories I hear are from Beulah...the flooding she brought to the valley is gonna be a lot like Harvey I reckon. Kinda worried for folks N of me.
I remember Beulah and the damage she made

Road out Ike in league city , never too crazy, some big limbs broke and hit the deck. Actually slept well through some of it .. however waking up and seeing a path of fences down in a straight line starting from ours all the way down the street (tornado) was a lil eerie...

We rode Alicia also, was bad for a while and then went calm with blue skis, Dad & headed to the barn to check the horses and what le we were there the other side of the eye hit and blew a huge pine down that came through the barn between my dad and I. The walk back to the house was a challenge.
