I was looking over the scents at Cabelas and I came across some Tink's Smoke Scents. I like idea of a small, constant scent being put out over an area. I was thinking about trying one during the rut. Does anybody have any history with them?

Heath,
Follow your hero....I do like them as a cover scent. I haven't found the need to buy the container. I generally light them in the tree with me and just put them so they don't blow back on me. If on the ground, just stick them in the ground and use them.
Saying that....if I'm hunting First Point I wouldn't do ANYTHING out of the ordinary on scents OR calling (other than maybe skunk or fox urinine on my boots) to bring attention to those wary deer that something is out of the ordinary.Proud member since 1999

I've used them once. It was probably 6 years ago. I used the sticks Cameron posted. I got nothing out of them. I remember the guy at the archery shop, where I bought them, saying he used them and had deer coming up to the bucket licking it, and going crazy around it. I didn't get even close to those results. Who knows. As with any scent, I believe they can be hit or miss. What may work one day in one area, won't work the next.

I remember my dad using them when he first started taking me hunting. I don't think we had much luck with them. What he did was get a 5 gallon bucket and cut holes in the side and flip the bucket upside down over the lit sticks. I don't think it did anything. We never saw deer while using them. Just my .02!

Heath is always rutting.....just surprised he didn't just pick up a fresh pack of Marlboro Red's, stuffed the wallet and dialed in a good Bartender for the hunt?
