    Pond advice on new lot

I know there is a ton of info out there, and I've dug through a bunch of it already, just wanted some real advice from some of you guys that have built a pond.

We are looking at a 2 acre lot, it's a rectangle and is around 150ft across. The back half, where the pond would go, is on a gentle downhill slope and a small creek, all floodplain, is about 20 yards from the property line.

My question is, limited to 150ft across (minus toom for dams), will we be able to build something big/deep enough for a sustainable population of fish? Catfish, crappie, bass?

2 acres is a small pond to START

Much less ON two acres. sooo the real question is how many fish can you sustain in basically a swimming pool... with feed and careful planning it could be done. Find a biologist... make sure you talk about your goals for the spot.

Honestly i wouldnt do crappie... they can JACK a system up

Yeah I know. All the lots around it have ponds on them but I don't know if they have fish in them. I would love to be able to have something big enough for at least some bass and catfish.

It's crazy seeing all that goes into digging a hole

Agreed on the crappie, the more I am reading the more I see against them.

Lol look up pondboss magazine.... crazy stuff.

I think you can have some numbers of bass and cats... but just be realistic, you will prob never grow anything much over 4 if you want to have numbers... or the oposite you might have a few monsters.

Let me find our guys website

I have one in my front yard. They are a lot of work to maintain and keep looking good. It was here when I bought the place, I would not add one if I had the choice.

Depending on amount of property and money to work with, build the size that fits what you have. We're on 16 acres and our pond is just a bit over an acre. We got lucky with the location and the fact it has 2 natural springs..... pond reaches 35' deep and maintains a real healthy population

We are in a similar situation. The 2 acre place we are buying is only 200' wide and on a slope with a gully on the back property line fed by 2 springs up the hill a bit on the property. I think we have decided to build an 80'x100' tank give or take a little.

That sounds nice, 35ft is awesome. What kind of fish do you have in it? The more I read the more I think I may just look for some channel cats, bluegill and minnows.

Good deal man, that looks about like what we will be able to get.
