I'm applying for a job with the city and was wondering about what all will be included on my record that they will see in their background check. 10 years ago I was given a field sobriety test but I wasn't charged & I wasn't arrested. A couple years before that I was involved in a road rage type incident. Police were called but there were no charges and no arrest. I've never been handcuffed or charged with anything other than speeding. It's embarrassing to tell about. It was long ago when I was young and didn't think past my nose. I'm just wanting to know if these things will be on my record and if they are enough to bar employment. Thank you.

You are probably fine and there may be record of it. Usually agencies will contact agencies where you have lived and request any info they have. So these incidents might show up. For sure disclose them. DO NOT LIE! With that said, I don't see those two things being grounds for removal from the process. Good luck!

You'll be fine. Arrests aren't even automatic disqualification most places as long as there are no Class B misdemeanor or higher convictions. If everybody who's ever had contact with LE was disqualified there wouldn't be anybody left to hire!! Just don't be untruthful about anything because that will disqualify you.

Just answer the questions truthfully. The incidents that you talked about don't appear anywhere on our background packets. Arrests and/or convictions of almost anything likely will be reported but not merely being questioned by an officer. I have never heard of a national database of speaking to officers. Arrests and convictions are on the criminal history check.... usually.
The things you asked about might come up in an interview or polygraph examination, which is mostly a long interview.
If any of those questions come up during any of those processes, answer them truthfully. I wouldn't volunteer anything but would hide nothing.
In my opinion.

Each department is different, but you may be asked to list any encounters that a report was generated or required a response. They hiring agency may inquire but from sounds of it, you will be fine. Just don't lie and disclose anything that is even borderline. Just my opinion and what I have found in doing background investigations for my agency.

They really need to get rid of the poly tests...especially for LE interviews. I know of two solid down to earth & patriotic kids who failed getting into the Border Patrol, both found inconclusive regarding ties to terrorism. Apparently it's becoming problematic & causing issues getting new hires & under review for removal of the hiring practice.
The fact these kids now have to wait YEARS to re-apply is absurd with today's background technology & likely getting surprised by questions about being tied to terrorism while being uber innocent is causing false positives on the poly. Beyond the inconclusive the kids are stellar & BP is shooting themselves in the foot.

Don't take the chance of missing out on a job opportunity. We all have some things we did when we were young. Omitting can be seen as deceptive and may come back to bite you. Honesty is the best policy. I had a couple things I wasn't proud of but I had to explain in detail and was overlooked. Good luck

Like others have said, I don't think the police contacts you've had will hurt you in any way. I will add that in the process, omitting something just because you don't think its relevant is the same as a lie at the end of the day. Id rather provide too much info, and have a chance to explain it than to be booted from the process for failing to disclose info.

Only speaking of my experiences. I did several minor things when I was young and it has had zero effect on me getting jobs in the defense industry and securing clearances from the Feds. Credit was and usually a bigger deal than old crimes... Apparently they are more worried about you being "bought off" than smoking a joint (I didn't inhale) and getting caught years ago. But then again, those things "might" have happened 40+ years ago for me.
I've passed DoD, FBI, and State investigations without a hitch.
