Anyone else experiencing a rodent explosion in numbers on farms and ranches?

I've been finishing up the shredding on all the pastures. With the abundance of rain and tall growth of grass, I noticed way too many rats. The hawks and buzzards have been eating well because of my work. Wish I could run over more.

Not this year, but summer yotes have seemed harder to coax in, which usually means abundant food source.

Fairly safe bet when it rains all levels of the food chain increase.

Last winter was bad, mice all over our neighborhood. We have had almost double the rain this year.... can't wait for the mice this winter, especially if it's cold at all

I've noticed the same. When I was a teen back in the 80s, an old man told me it meant we had a bad winter coming. He was right.

Every time I see a fresh cut coastal field lately it's full of buzzards.

There is some meteorological patterns that seem to support the idea of a hard(er) winter

I've seen a bunch of kangaroo rats and pack rats lately. Smashed a big pack rat running across the road the other night. I guess they've been thick in my Uncle's garden too. I hate those nasty son of a guns. Last year they were bad too. Had all kinds of mice running around in the house. I know several other people were having the same problem.

Always battling them at my house in midland. I kill usually 1-4 pack rats a night for a solid month. They've cost me thousands in vehicle repairs.

Good reason to NOT kill every snake you see.

Not any more than usual....I used to have a particular hawk follow me around when I would shred the pasture...I was his best friend.

Yes! They are very bad at my little ranch. All of the rain the last few years has made for lots of thick, tall growth. They got my tractor wiring harness earlier this year, thank goodness it was covered under insurance so I was just out the deductible...

I've noticed a lot around my place as well. Both in the pasture and around the yard as well. Haven't really been an issue in the house other than they are getting in my garage. Been catching lots of them there.

Them suckers chewed on several watermelon and cantaloupe in my garden this year. Was surprised how much damage they did. Some had nest in my garden.
