    Window Replacement ?

I live in Portland, (north Of Corpus Christi ) Along the coast and I want to replace some windows in my house. I am under the belief that If I want to replace a window in my house, that I can just to go lowes or home depot and get one. But I also need to pay a little extra for some certificate, that shows the window meets windstorm requirements ???
Looking for input, One quote I received was like $ 250.00 a window, and 200.00 for the stupid letter,
Any one else have this problem before ?

I am currently getting new windows installed at my place in POC and you basically need to have an engineer sign off on the windows saying that they are wind certified depending upon which windows you go with if you have wind insurance (Texas Windstorm) . You can go the higher end route and get the projectile proof windows I believe they are covered automatically but I think they are pretty expensive.

      Thank you twia.

You have to get a window that is rated for your zone and have the windstorm engineer come out before and after the window goes in to make sure you followed the directions on installing the window/door/roof/siding/etc.
