    Wiring a 120 from 240

Bought a gas stove to replace the electric one we had. I have dual 50 amp breakers in the box. What is the process for wiring this to a 120? I'd prefer an electricians opinion if possible

I did the same thing when I converted a wall oven space to a cubby space with an outlet. I just changed the fuse in the braker box to a 15 or 20 I think. I'd have to go look.

Turn stove breaker off. double check power is off. Take out the wires from the breaker. You will have to to get one of the hot leads( black wire) and covert it to neutral (white wire). you can identify the wire with a Continuity test at both ends and put white wire tape around the one you will be making nuetral wire and connect to neutral bar in panel. pigtail some #12 wires to your existing Aluminum wires. Note: if you use copper #12 make sure you use alu/copper bonding solution and install your regular 20 amp plug and plate. After install a 20 amp single pole breaker in place of the 50 amp double pole breaker if you don't have any space and add a filler cap for the missing breaker space. You have a surface stove plug, so you will need a box with its proper plate for your regular plug..... I did stay at one of those hotels last night.

The bare wire is your ground (green screw on plug).

Agreed. Everytime I do electrical work I make sure I adhere to this advice. In fact, I do my best to apply it to everything I do.

                      I'd run a new circuit.

Coming from another electrician, id say this is spot on.

This isnt a bad idea either. If it isnt a 2 story house.
