Dang. That looks painful. They always worry me. We have killed 4 around the house this year. That's about average for us. The wife and I were sitting at outside having a couple cold ones Monday night. I happened to look down before getting off the barstool and this little bastage was right under her stool.

          Get well quick
I did the same thing years ago but it was a rat snake, terrible feeling to step on something in the dark that rolls under foot. I nearly covered him in fertilizer.

I know how that feels...got bit by a copperhead several years ago. To make things worse; the little hospital I went to tried to tell me I sprained it...never got meds or antivenom. Healing was a painful process.

I can understand getting bit by a snake in that circumstance but having snake boots in your hands just makes it that more frustrating for you and somewhat comical for us.

Glad you're okay and it wasn't any worse!

I walked out of our cabin the other day barefoot. A few minutes later a buddy was doing the same and saw a copperhead on same path I took. I'll never be barefoot again.

Did you go straight to ER?
How long before swelling and pain?
                How is it feeling now?

Wondering impact to me if i get bit, do I have time to drive home or at least hospital near home.

We were on the road to the ER less than 10 minutes. Took about 15 minutes to get there. (Usually takes 20 to get to hallettsville!) Within minutes the pain and burning had spread to my knee. Swelling started within 10-15 minutes after the bite. Still sore. Not much pain when it's propped up. When I get up to go the bathroom or do anything, it hurts. Needs crutches to get around. Can't put any weight on my foot. Still can't wiggle my toes. So far, not much bruising. Dr said we did good getting to ER as quick as we did.

You'd be fine. You're 9 times more likely to get struck by lightning than die from a snake bite. Of course everyone reacts differently to a snake bite and even the antivenom they give you at the hospital. Some people are highly allergic to it. Copperhead bites are notorious for that. A lot of times the treatment for a Copperhead bite leaves you worse off than the bite itself.

I wouldn't wait around for a few hours like I've done before because that's a good way to lose body parts but depending on how severe the bite is you don't have to get there immediately necessarily. The sooner the better but if you have to drive an hour or so don't worry about it.

                      Thanks guys.

I've got general male color blindness on top of moving at lightning speed 24/7 and never paying attention. I get real scared of making a dumb move one day. I worry about being at lease alone and needing to get back.
