    Close Encounter

Yesterday I was working in San Antonio area and caught something out of the corner of my eye. It was a 26 inch coral snake the biggest I have ever seen. Seemed aggressive and was coming straight at me. I did not know they would strike so I put a shovel between him and I and it struck the shovel. I went ahead and took care of the issue. Has anyone else ever seen a coral snake strike, I always thought they had to "GUM" whatever ever they attacked.

i grabbed one i saw crossing a road one day, he was a little mad but did'nt get crazy with me.
Came across another one at my lease and it tried to get away from me and did not like me holding him down with my arrow but he did not strike

I killed a really big one in my yard a couple months back and I tried to make him strike and he wouldn't. he just kept trying to get away. The part about them having to chew on you is a myth.

I can see how they would run a man down and attack

I've caught a few and never had one even act like it wanted to strike. A King Snake on the other hand will be hostile at first. Corals are kin to cobras and will actually flatten their head/hood when agitated.
