    A/c guys!

My A/C bit the dust at the house last night and we woke up to 84 degrees at 4 am.... I've gotten quotes for a new 4 ton American Standard and a 4 ton Trane.

    Trane - $6k+ installed

    American Standard - $4300 installed

Any pros/cons to one system over the other? The price has all but ruled out the Trane. We only plan to be in the home a few more years. Are these quotes competitive?

It's more about the installation than the equipment. As long as good install practices are used either one will be a good pick. For the length of time y'all plan on being in the home the American Standard would be fine.

American Standard has been rated number 1 in consumer reports for a long time. Least amount of failures with them. Price seems about right. What seer rating did they quote you?

Seems about right on price for the american standard. How were the contractors? Well dressed? Professional? Rated well? Recommended?

I believe either Trane owns American Standard or it's the other way around. We had an American Standard system that was great. For the price difference I would go the cheaper route. Both have good reputations from what i know.

I went American Standard. I'm satisfied so far. It was one of the few I could get without microchannels on the outside unit. Also has a scroll compressor. The rest is on the installer. I had them install a brand new line set too, instead of just flushing the lines.

The Trane guy has been my AC guy for several years. The American Standard guy was highly recommended by a good friend and was very professional. I hate to not use my guy, but all he sells is Trane.

They are the same unit. Just check the model numbers to compare. Pm me if you like and I can tell you if any difference in them. I am a Trane dealer so I can not sell American standard and Vice Versa. Typically they are about the same in price.

I had a Trane for many years and then it crapped out. Called my AC guy that installed it 10-12 years before and asked about Trane.

                        He had recently dumped them.

According to him, a China company bought Trane and the coils were sub par and began to leak quickly. When a warranty claim was made, he fought Trane (because they were now in China) and he had to eat the cost to keep his customers and wasn't reimbursed by Trane so he dumped them.

He is a trusted AC guy in my area. Just what he said???
