Believe it or not I have never hunted out of a pop up. I see a lot of you guys use them frequently and seem to have success. I've always built brush blinds, tree blinds and tripods. So, I'm headed to Goliad this weekend and I'm going after a particular buck. He has been spotted several times this week in a area where I have zero set ups. My buddy is letting me borrow his pop up and I just don't want the unexpected to be the reason for missing my chance. What are some things to consider for keeping quiet and staying comfortable? What are some things you have learned through experience that I might not think of until its to late?

If you don't have any go to Wally World and get some black sweat tops. Buy them large so you can put them over other clothing. Some black cotton work gloves work and either a black mask or black out your face with something.
PH covered the scent thing so that leaves sound. They can get real close to the blind so make sure to clear out the floor of leafs or anything that might make any noise.
Good luck!Last edited by Cotton; 12-17-2008, 10:25 PM.

Brush it in EXTEMELY well. For turkey, it don't matter, but for deer............ I think a person needs to have the blind (pop up) set up way in advance of hunting an area, so that the deer get used to it. I think it will be tough, but w/a little luck, the right wind, and concealing the blind EXTREMELY well,...... it could happen for you.
Good luck w/it, and keep us posted on how it goes for you.

I'll echo brushing it in really well. The more, the better your chances for success. Don't open the windows all the way - just enough to shoot through. Get all the leaves and grass and stuff out of the blind.
Get you a small but comfortable stool to sit on. You'll need to move and be able to shoot in all the right directions. There's one at Academy I like that has a square ice chest bottom and a back.

I knew I would catch a few smart comments about the threads tittle! Thanks for the good info guys. I wouldn't have thought of the black mask and sweat tops. I would have just worn my regular camo mask. If I had known in advance this deer was going to be in the area I would have set up at least a week ago. Not much to work with, so I'm gonna give it my best. If anyone else has thoughts, keep them rolling. Muchas Gracias

I'd advise to set up the borrowed blind and make sure you can shoot out of it.
A lot of blinds are tight and you have to preplan how to draw (bow pointed up or towards a corner) in order not to hit the side with your arrow.
The chair you use needs to be the correct height as well. (so your arrow isn't pointed at the windows edge when at full draw). The sights might be looking at shoot thru mesh & deer, but the arrow rest is ~2" lower and often times low enough to hit the blind material to the window.
If you don't have the time to do a 100% brush job, you can set it back into the brush one layer of trees/brush behind the treeline & cut shooting lanes to it. Then use the cut stuff to help brush in what you can see from the trail.
