    Home Building Question

We are in the process of putting plans together for our future house to be built. I'm having a problem with the house location relevant to the county rd it sits off of. The house will be roughly 100 yards of a county rd. If we build the house square with the rd the back of the house will be facing northwest. I'm concerned the back porch will catch all the sun in the afternoons and all the north wind and rain in the winter. There is nothing but big open fields to the north so there won't be a wind break. So do I build it with the front facing west and the back facing east? Or build it square with the rd like 95% of homes are built. I also don't want to hurt the resale value in the future if it doesn't face the rd. Not planning on selling anytime soon just thinking long term. Thanks for the help.

Build the house in the direction that will suit your needs. Then plant trees in front to help cover up the offset, if you go that direction.

The wind factor is up to you. But whatever side gets the most son, if it has a door make sure it's a metal door.

      Is your rear porch covered?

Just curve your drive way at the end to come to the front of the house

Thanks for the info. I was leaning towards build it the direction we want to.

I built my last house with my back porch facing west. I envisioned sitting on the back porch grilling and watching the sunset. Man was I wrong. It was so freaking hot we hardly used the back porch or grilled in the summer. I just built a new house and the back porch faces east. Best decision ever.

I wouldn't worry about how most houses face on your road and build it how you want.
