    Windows Support?

After a long day of video editing, I reset my computer.

I just turned it back on to finish up Alexis' video and my computer starts fine and goes to the Log In screen for VISTA. After I log in, it goes to a light blue screen with a mouse pointer.

I don't have anything on my desktop, not even the launch bar to hit the "start" button. My wallpaper is gone, desktop icons, everything. I can hit CTRL - ALT - DEL, to bring up the menu that gives me options to do various things...I've tried restarting and the same thing over and over........When I goto Task manager, it lets me start a new task and I can open up my Sony Vegas Software from here....

Anyone know how to fix this problem?

    Open one Window...

Then throw the computer out of it

I would gladly get rid of VISTA and install XP if I didn't have to purchase a whole new operating system again

Try going into safe mode, start with the computer off, turn it on, when your computer gets past the manufacturers splash screen (Dell, Gateway, etc...) hit the f8 key repeatedly until you get a menu, select safe mode. Once safe mode loads do a restart. Alot of times this fixes it. If not, then go back into safe mode and do a system restore from an earlier time. Good luck.

it sounds to me like explore.exe is not loading. When you are in task manager click file > New task (run). Then type in explorer.exe. If that restores everything.

Winner Winner Chicken Dinner......thanks to each of you.

I did a System Shutdown and left it off for a few minutes while I washed dishes. Went back, started it up, and left it on that blue screen while I finished drying up the dishes...It took awhile, but it finally loaded the explorer.exe file like it was supposed to.

Now that you've gotten to that part, do a start, run, cmd, then a CHKDKS /R and reboot again. Let it check the disk and repair anything it doesn't like, and it should come up fine.

It takes a while to do the checkdisk, but it's worth it.

I just went through this same scenario but with XP. The explorer.exe took care of it but it seems to have been caused but a trojan called Vundo.CL that is actually a tracking virus of some sort.

Glad you got the desktop back!

You wouldn't happen to know where the "run" command is on Vista do you? I know on Xp it was right below the search button...

Coach, call Tech Support Center. They have added to their staff. This guy helped me a lot, but it was a little difficult to understand him.
