    The Pit Room

Tried this place as my next top of the line BBQ joint after Gatlin's. First off, places like Gatlin's and the Pit Room are top tier, and judging which one is "better" is a waste of time. Both, and many others across the state, have achieved perfection, so instead of judging them, enjoy them. Now, on to bidness...

Better get to The Pit Room early, seating fills up quick. Fortunately, The Patio next door lets folks use their outdoor seating if necessary. There is a cool outdoor bar style seating area at the Pit Room if you want to try that too.

The rub on the brisket is different. Not crazy different or bad different, but not-as-bold different. The bark was perfecto but the meat wasn't so smoky that the smoke overpowered the flavor. I also got pork ribs, and my dad tried Czech sausage in addition to the brisket. Both were excellent. I prefer a glaze on my ribs, but the dry rub approach The Pit Room uses is very good. My dad said the sausage was the best he's had at a BBQ joint, which is saying a lot given that he's been to more than half of Texas Monthly's Top 50 list.

Sides. Normally the sides are just what you eat to keep from gorging yourself on meat, but these were good. Strongly recommend the mac n cheese, though the elote my dad got was pretty tasty too. They also have a pickle, jalapeño, onion, carrot mix kind of like the jalapeño carrots at Ninfa's.

Anyway, go check it out! ...and be prepared to skip dinner because you will still be full!
