    Duramax question

Two weeks ago I had the fuel filter replaced in my 09 Duramax drove about two mile home and parked it a couple days later I drove it to the store and for some reason It seamed not to start as quick as I thought It should. Week later drove to Lawton OK. still the same thing slow to start get home park it a week later get in it to start it slow to start. Drive to the lease in silver Texas and on the way home it goes in to limp mode (reduced power was on the screen) and check engine light appears. I was able to disconnect the battery and rehook it up and it ran just fine. Stopped to get code read and it says low fuel pressure.

    My three question's is...
    1. Could they have not primed the fuel filter properly?
    2. Could it be the wrong fuel filter?
    3. What do y'all think?

Also after we did the battery trick it now tells me to change fuel filter and with 96% life left on it.

    Thanks in advance

Which brand filter? I had same issues in my 09' diesel shop told me some cheap filter media is soft and will collapse inside causing low pressure which throws a code and makes truck think the filter is bad.

I had to buy filters from them which were a hair more. Unfortunately I don't remember the name as I've sold the truck. But I didn't have those issues after. These where white with blue markings and about 1/2" longer. Any filter from auto zone would cause it. Another option they told me was to add a fuel pump. The factory is in the tank and when I needed, the fuel couldn't get there fast enough.

Mine had a tune on it and would go to limp mode after crushing some kid in a mustang heart.[emoji1]

Have you tried tightening the filter? I've seen a duramax pulling in air because of a loose filter after being changer.

They told me they used GKI Filter.

They are willing to replace and upgrade what ever it takes.

What is the best filter to use?

Mine is a '16 but for what it's worth I buy them at the dealer. Our local dealer is like sixty something bucks but there is a dealer I drive by occasionally that's further away and sells them for $40.

Stay with ACDelco filter. My guess is the o-ring seal on filtler isn't on good, or the senser on bottom of filter isn't on good..

Ford has the same issue. Tighten it all the way. Ford actually has a physical stop so you can only go so far. I have had the exact same symptoms before, usually after 5-10 miles, but sometimes after a couple hours of driving.

Then bleed your system after that, should be ready to rock.

                      Especially on bleeding it yourself.

My dad had an 05 that he could not figured out the hard to start issues. The first thing I did when I got the truck was purge the filter, and it cranked right up. You can do it yourself with a long flat screw driver, and less than five minutes.

Best advice... buy a Ford. Just kidding, hope you figure it out bud. Nothing worse than something you can't figure out on your pickup.

Possibly your fuel filter housing needs to be rebuilt. The O rings in them deteriate and they won't hold prime any longer. Pretty easy to do and rebuild kit is cheap. Keep us posted on what you find.

I hope they used the right wrench on the bleed housing on the bottom of the filter, I learned this the hard way.
I also recommend the factory filter. Aftermarket filters have left me having to prime my system on the side of the road

Hoping tomorrow it's not my daily driver
