Would you kill an Emu?

A friend of mine owns property in Rocksprings..He has about 6 feral emu on his place..He says they vacuum up corn worst than the hogs, and scare of all the deer when they come to the buffet...He told me to kill them if I see them...just seems weird killing one...Whats ya'lls take on this? I heard they are good to eat but have never tried...are LDP's a must?

I see them as unnatural pests and yes, I'd shoot one, but have no desire to eat one. I wouldn't even know where to begin to clean one.

I will say that they are pretty tasty! My dad and a friend started raising them years ago when they were new and booming. We butchered a few small ones that had leg problems or other issues. Don't really recall the cleaning, but the eating part I do remember and they were very good.

My family used to raise those stupid things... I say kill them all. Oh but the meat is good. I would say skin/ gut them then just de-bone the meat and cook it like a pot roast.

If it was not bothering anything or not eating the corn I wouldn't kil it just for the sake of killing something. But it's being a pest or bothering my hunting then yes, done deal.

I have killed a few of them. Only advice I can give you is dont do it off the ground- I got hit by one after I shot it in a brush blind and it was not fun. Felt like getting hit by a linebacker when you are not looking. The meat is awesome and they do run the feeders and everything including hogs will leave when they there.

I killed one with a bow about 10 years. Tastes like a giant dove.....

Don't shoot one with a bow while standing on the ground or at least be very well hidden. THEY ARE MEAN and they will attack!
