    I'll have one for sale in November. My daughters shorthorn show steer blew his stifle out a few weeks ago. Will fatten him up to about 1000-1100 lbs. I will be asking $1000.00 for him.

        I don't think you could ever come out ahead feeding one over buying at a meat market unless you don't have anything in the animal to start with.

          And you always have something in them to start with even if you raise your own. The amount they WOULD have brought at the sale barn should be figured into the equation....if you are looking at the economics. But as most have said, they do it for the taste, peace of mind, etc... not because it is cheaper.
