You have to check out the Bass Pro Shop at the Pyramid in Memphis. It is quite the showplace. And the restaurant on top the observation deck has some decent food and cool dining experience.
You will also be close to a bunch of casinos that are fun and pretty nice. Decent food, play and stay.
Beale street is a fun place to hangout. Lots to see. Interesting people, food, drinks, etc.
Graceland is a pretty unreal place. It's amazing to see the following of one man like Elvis. It is quite over whelmimg.
Sun studios has a lot of history.
You can also visit the hotel where MLK was murdered.
If you're into baseball, you can watch the Memphis Redbirds in downtown Memphis. Also a good time to be had there.
Memphis is a great city with lots of histories and activities, but it is also a very dangerous city. Most people will leave you alone and all is good. Just don't venture down areas where there isn't tourist. Don't draw attention to yourself. I believe the area you are in is a good area. Germantown and collierville are also good safe areas.
