Start of youth football season! Boys are already running contained hitting drills. Love this time of year. My son moved up to 9-10yr olds this year. Can't wait to see how the kids develop.
yes sir, my 9yo just started hitting tonight and my wife says he looks pretty timid lol. I knew he would be but I figure he will get over in a week or 2.
Just finished our first scrimmage. My son is frustrated due to all the holding on the o-line, but that stuff will stop once it is called in a game. Then he will really put a hurt in the backfield. Our team's offense is inept at blocking, so unless they make some improvements, it's going to be a long season.
We teach our high school players that there is no such thing as holding. You have to earn the right to make a play and get off "blocks". We don't want our guys whining and complaining about those things...we want them playing football.
Is there holding? Sure, in fact lots of coaches teach it. But we dont let ours use it as an excuse. Might be something good to teach younguns early, to get off blocks and go play football.
Love that he is frustrated with it though, because it tells me he is a ball player. He wants to go get after it.

Good point! I will pass that along to him. It did make him feel better when he realized that the only way the guy could block him was to hold but he was frustrated that it kept him from getting a few sacks
