    Question on draw hunts

Question, moved to Texas about a year ago, draw hunts look to be the similar format as Georgia. However, do they e-mail you if you get denied or just occasionally check the website? Also if i signed up for 5 hunts and get denied to them all do i get 5 points to use later or just 1?

    Thanks

When I got drawn last year, I got an e-mail notification, but no notice for stuff not drawn.
You can check your status online for each category.

Posted on another drawn hunt category thread but will try and explain again. As far as preference points, it's on a hunt category basis. You can only accumulate 1 point per year in a category regardless of the number of applications. Points reset to zero when you are drawn in a category, not a hunt location.

Now as far as using preference points, someone new to Texas may be confused. Basically in Texas, your preference points automatically roll over to the next year. You can't choose to use them. With that said, all the preference points give you is a slightly greater chance of being drawn.

Here's my example. You have 1 preference point in a category, TPWD puts 1 "lottery ball" with your name in the hopper. If you have 2 points, you get 2 lottery balls and so on. Never will get to a point where you can "cash in" preference points and be guaranteed a hunt. It's a lottery every year.

Many on here have some high numbers in certain categories (I have several with 18) but every year I apply, I still go through the lottery just with a slightly higher chance of winning. High preference points don't guarantee anything. I see it every year. Somebody with 1 or 2 points gets drawn for a coveted permit (i.e. Chaparral). This is just a much different system than the typical western tag lotteries. Not saying better or worse, just different.

              Hope that explanation makes sense.
