who has tried this themselves? where did you get the screen? I have seen a number of screens on amazon with mixed reviews so it seems like a shot in the dark at getting a quality replacement.
thoughts??
I watched a buddy of mine replace his. he regretted it due to ALL the tiny screws/parts that had to be removed(camera, vibrator, etc.) After putting it back together, he realized that it wasn't right. Although the screen he bought online fit his phone, it just wouldn't work. Don't remember all the details. After getting a new screen, the second installation went more smoothly.
Point being... there is a lot more to it than you would think & ensure you get the correct screen.
Sorry i'm not more help.
EDIT: Also, don't forget to remove the red tab on the screen. It's some sort of static protection or something.
There are kiosk in the mall that will do it for $80. Ask me how I know with a nine year old boy that could tear an anvil up with a rubber hammer. The wife is a pro at getting it fixed at the mall LOL.
All depends on your patience and ability to work with small stuff. If you have good eyes, a steady hand, and patience, its really not that hard. Most screens will come with a kit to take everything apart. Watch a youtube video to get the idea of the process and then go to town. I've replaced several on my kitchen table with no problems. Just be careful with the ribbons. If those tear, that's not good.
lots of you tube videos show how to . Just go slow and have patience . Put all screws back in the same slot they came out of . They are all different lengths and not interchangeable
Good eyes and in a room that is well lit helps too !
my kids are hard on equipment and have dropped a few phones. I have replaced a screen on the 4S twice and the 5S, and ipad mini.
I recommend buying the replacement screen and digitizer already assembled. I have had decent luck getting replacement parts from Amazon, just look for parts that are highly rated. Watch a few videos on youtube and take your time. I like to spread a bath towel on the kitchen counter, that way any of the screws that I drop dont bounce off the counter and onto the floor.
I've done it on older iphones. Go to ifixit .com and look up your phone model. Bought the new screen from a local repair shop in town. Stuff like that, I don't like ordering online.
I replaced my wife's IPhone 4 battery.
The screws in the bottom weren't a Philips they were a pentalubular (sp?). I got the battery and an installation kit with 2 Philips replacement screws from I fixit for $20

I used to do this for a living. My old company iCracked used to also sell kits for DIYers. They may still. If so, the parts and support will be light years ahead of something from amazon.

I've not replaced (X my fingers) a screen, but I did have to have the battery replaced. I watched the guy and was glad to pay the $ at Batteries +. Well worth the money and short time.
